Lip liner is perhaps my favourite makeup product. I love the way it can change the shade of lipstick you choose to wear over it, as well as the way you can slightly alter the shape of your lips. Lip liner also generally lasts well, and extends the wear time of lipstick or lipgloss worn over it.
In this post I'll show you my favourite drugstore lip liners! Most of them are nude shades, as they're the colours which I wear most days.
This is one of the first lip liners that I ever tried, and it's definitely one of my favourites. The colour is slightly darker than my natural lip colour, making it perfect for every day looks. If I ever choose to over line my lips slightly, then this is the lip liner I reach for. The only downside is that it isn't overly creamy, however when I'm over lining my lips I prefer that because it's easier to be precise.
Essence Cosmetics Lip Liner in 'In the Nude'
This lip liner is similar in colour to the Maybelline one, but it is much creamier. Essence lip liners are possibly my favourite because of this. 'In the Nude' is an amazing 'my lips but better' shade that evens out my lip colour and slightly lightens it. This lip liner is also only $2.80 (AUD), so I highly recommend it. I've already gone through a few of these!
Essence Cosmetics Lip Liner in 'Satin Mauve'
'Satin Mauve' is a beautiful mauve lip liner that performs the same as 'In the Nude'. This colour is a much darker, almost berry shade. It's perfect for when I want my lips to be more of a focal point, even though it isn't overly dark or bright. My only criticism with Essence lip liners is that their creaminess can lead to constant sharpening and waste of product. Given the price point however this isn't too much of an issue.
Colourpop Cosmetics Lip Liner in 'Bound'
Out of all of the lip liners in this post, 'Bound' is the most recently purchased. It has been getting a lot of wear from me lately, as the texture and colour is incredible. Colourpop lip liners are very creamy and easy to apply with minimal tugging of the skin. This colour in particular is gorgeous on its own, or layered under a nude lipstick. When worn alone, 'Bound' is a deep brown shade with a touch of pink. It is much darker than my natural lip colour. If I want a lighter nude colour, I only use this lip liner around the edges of my lips and blend inwards to ensure there isn't a harsh line between the lip liner and lipstick.
Maybelline Superstay Lip Liner in 'Bordeaux'
'Bordeaux' is a beautiful, deep matte wine shade. I haven't worn this lip liner alone, but I love to pair it with darker lipsticks to ensure they don't bleed and last longer. As it is a matte shade, 'Bordeaux' is slightly dry, and doesn't apply as easily as the other lip liners on this list. Despite this, it is a gorgeous shade that does what it claims to.
Jordana Long Lip Liner Pencil in 'Red'
I purchased this lip liner from beautyjoint.com for under $2! It isn't a true red shade, with strong pink tones pulling through. I wear this colour under all of my red lipsticks, and it helps them to stay in place for longer. It also prevents bleeding around the edges of my lip line. Despite the pinkness of this shade, it works well with all of my red lipsticks and doesn't alter the colour. This pencil is quite creamy, and is very easy to apply.

Let me know what your favourite lip liners are! Are there any other brands I need to try?
